Service Academies

As a Member of Congress, I am able to nominate young men and women from the 13th District of Pennsylvania to one of our country's four service Academies:

• Air Force Academy
  
• Army
  
• Merchant Marine
  
• Navy

The United States Coast Guard does not accept Congressional nominations, applications must be submitted directly to:

Director of Admissions, U.S. Coast Guard Academy,
New London, Connecticut 06320.

Applying for a Nomination

To initiate the nomination process, please contact my Service Academy Coordinator, Emily Haas at (215) 517-6572 or Emily.Haas@mail.house.gov.

Once a file for you has been opened with my office, you will receive an application by mail. If you wish to view and print the application, please click here. The deadline for receipt of the application is October 14, 2011.

Note: Each Congressional Office relies upon a selection process designed to meet certain standards. The different procedures followed by each office often confuse applicants who apply for a nomination through more than one office. Please carefully study and follow the instructions of each office to avoid last minute misunderstandings about requirements and procedures.

Basic Nomination Requirements

Basic eligibility requirements for nominations are:

• United States Citizen
• Applicant must be a legal resident of the 13th Congressional District
• Must be 17-22 years old (Not 23 by July 1st of year admitted)
• Unmarried with no dependent children

Nomination Selection Criteria

Selections are based on the following factors, including:

• Academics
• Leadership potential
• Physical condition
• Medical condition
