Rep. Schwartz Presents Montgomery County Law Enforcement Officials With Over $365,000 to Help Fight Crime

Jenkintown, PA – U.S. Representative Allyson Schwartz presented local Montgomery County law enforcement officials and first responders with four checks totaling over $365,000 to help fight crime during a press conference this morning, January 22, at the Montgomery County Courthouse. Schwartz secured the funding in the omnibus spending bill which was signed into law by President Bush on December 26, 2007.

“On a daily basis police officers and other first responders put their lives on the line in order to protect us and our communities. I’ve worked hard in Congress to be an active voice in support of law enforcement and first responders in both Philadelphia, and here in Montgomery County, and I am proud to present this funding today to the Eastern Montgomery County Regional Emergency Management Group and to the Ambler, Towamencin, and Whitemarsh police departments,” said Representative Schwartz.

Law Enforcement Funding Secured by Rep. Schwartz

Eastern Montgomery County Regional Emergency Management Group
$164,500, emergency disaster incident training and evacuation planning

Ambler Police Department
$126,900, communications and security equipment

Towamencin Township Police Department
$42,300, technology upgrades

 Whitemarsh Township Police Department
$32,900, technology upgrades

Law enforcement officials praised Schwartz’s work in securing the funding to assist local police departments and her longtime commitment to police and first responders.

“We appreciate Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz’s support and her willingness to go to bat for our police department. During her tenure in Congress, she has worked hard for Montgomery county law enforcement,” said Chief Rocco Wack, Ambler Police.

“Representative Schwartz is an important ally for law enforcement. The technology grant will better enable our police department to not only keep local citizens safe, but it also will play a vital role in keeping our officers safe on the street,” said Whitemarsh Police Chief Eileen Behr.

“Congresswoman Schwartz fought to secure this important funding, and we are grateful for her longstanding support of our regional training and emergency planning efforts,” added Ed Momorella, deputy emergency management coordinator, Abington Township

“This grant will enable our department to purchase much needed state of the art in-car digital camera equipment that will go along way toward better protection for the community, as well as our police officers.  We thank Congresswoman Schwartz for her hard work in securing this funding,” said Towamencin Township Police Chief Paul T. (Tim) Dickinson.
