| Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Allyson Schwartz (Pa-13) spoke on the House floor today to applaud the Committee on Ways and Means for passing the Children’s Health and Medicare Protection (CHAMP) Act. The bill is expected to be on the House floor next week, and Schwartz is leading efforts to secure its passage. Watch Rep. Schwartz talk about the CHAMP Act. A copy of Schwartz’s statement floor follows below. “Just a few hours ago, the Children’s Health and Medicare Protection (CHAMP) Act, which expands access to quality health care for both our nation’s children and our nation’s seniors, was passed out of Committee. “We are wisely investing $50 billion to protect and expand access to health care coverage for 11 million kids.
-“CHIP has always had strong bipartisan support, not only because of what it accomplishes, but also because of how it meets its goal of providing access to health insurance: by taking a flexible, effective, market-orientated approach. “We should focus our efforts on shoring up what has been a very successful federal-state, public-private partnership in enabling hard-working American families to provide health insurance for their kids.
-“The CHAMP Act also makes much needed adjustments to strengthen and sustain Medicare for American seniors by securing appropriate payments for physicians, and quality, innovative health care options for seniors. “Protecting Medicare for seniors and extending CHIP to more of our children is the best opportunity for Congress to act on its determination to find a fiscally responsible solution to health care coverage for all American’s seniors and children- and someday all Americans.” #### |
