Washington, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz was recognized by the Healthcare Leadership Council on October 5th as a “Champion of Healthcare Innovation.” Schwartz was selected by the Council to receive this award because of the leadership she has demonstrated throughout her career in public service and her focus on transforming our health care system through the promotion of innovations in technologies, treatments and the delivery of patient care.
In 2008, Schwartz was the first-ever recipient of the “Gateway to Innovation” award from the Healthcare Leadership Council.
“I am honored to have been chosen by the Healthcare Leadership Council for this important award,” Schwartz said. “Throughout my career, I have worked to find innovative ways to improve our health care system – from strengthening health information technology to championing a tax credit for the biotech industry. I am proud of the work I have done on primary care, delivery system reforms and increasing access to quality affordable health coverage for all Americans.”
In Congress, Schwartz is one of the leading policymakers on the nation’s health care system. She continues to be a strong and influential voice on health care as co-chair of the New Democrat Coalition’s Health Care Task Force, co-chair of the Health Care Innovation Task Force, and co-chair of the Academic Medicine Caucus.
The Healthcare Leadership Council is a coalition of chief executives of many of the nation’s leading health care companies and organizations representing all health care sectors. The Council presents awards to lawmakers who demonstrate commitment, leadership and vision in working to improve the quality and affordability of health care in the United States.
