Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz issued the following statement after the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization voted to accept the Palestinian Authority as a member.
“Earlier this week, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) voted to accept the Palestinian Authority as a member. This is disappointing and counter-productive.
“The insistence of the Palestinian Authority to seek membership in UNESCO and recognition by the U.N. Security Council undermines the prospects for peace.
“Earlier today, I met with Jarrod Bernstein, the new White House liaison to the Jewish community. Along with other Jewish Members, we acknowledged the President's steadfast support of Israel in opposition to admission of the Palestinian Authority to the U.N.
“We stand with the President in his decision to withhold funds for UNESCO.”
