On Friday May 21st, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz will join Families USA and Senator Casey on a press conference call to discuss how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will eliminate potential barriers to health coverage for more than 2.3 million Pennsylvanians by requiring insurance companies to sell them coverage. During the health care reform debate, Schwartz introduced legislation to end the practice of denying coverage to patients with pre-existing conditions and her language was included in the final health care reform law.
A new Families USA report reveals that Pennsylvanians of all age, racial, and income groups share the problem of pre-existing conditions and will benefit from the new health care reform law. The report, Health Reform: Help for Pennsylvanians with Pre-Existing Conditions, shows:
· That every age group of Pennsylvanians is affected by potential denial of coverage and the problem grows as people age;
· That Pennsylvanians of every income level are affected, but the majority of those affected are middle-class and higher income residents; and
· That every racial and ethnic group in Pennsylvania is affected.
