Washington, D.C.—U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz issued the following statement today after President Obama put forward a proposal to streamline government to better serve the private sector.
“Today, President Obama took a bold step in reorganizing the federal government to streamline government and improve efficiency.
“Just as private sector companies have looked to improve their effectiveness by breaking down antiquated stovepipes, the time is long overdue for the federal government to centralize the efforts of the six departments or agencies established to assist American businesses and increase export opportunities.
“By merging the Commerce Department, the Small Business Administration, the Office of the U.S. Trade representative and other independent business agencies, the business community will no longer have to jump from one agency to another as they look for guidance and resources from the federal government.
“The President’s request for the authority to reorganize will require approval from Congress and I stand ready to help. As a co-chair of the New Democrat Coalition, I have a long record of finding ways to foster new American jobs, greater economic prosperity, and a safer and more secure future for our country.”
