On Friday, May 6th, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz will host her third annual Veterans Resource Expo in Philadelphia to ensure that veterans, soldiers, and their families are informed about and have access to the wide range of benefits and services available to them.
Schwartz was one of only 20 Members of Congress to receive an A+ from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America for her exceptional handling of veterans’ issues.
The Congresswoman has consistently worked to ensure that our veterans receive the benefits they have earned for their service to our country:
· Introduced her first piece of legislation, which was signed into law in 2007, to provide tax credits to businesses that hire service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
· Fought for passage of the New GI Bill, ensuring that our service men and women receive the educational advantage they earned.
· Supported the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act, which was signed into law in 2010 and provides support to families who care for disabled, ill or injured veterans and enhances health services for the 1.8 million women veterans.
Back home, Schwartz is the founding partner of the Veterans History Project to honor volunteers and participating veterans in her district. She also hosts an annual Unsung Heroines Ceremony to commemorate the sacrifices military families make every day.
The Veterans Resource Expo will feature representatives from more than 30 federal and local agencies and non-profit organizations who will provide one-on-one information and resources on employment and training, small business, and benefits. The congresswoman’s staff will also be on hand to provide assistance.
At the event, veterans and their families can find assistance with issues including official copies of separation documents or military records, replacement of medals, updates on the status of pending VA compensation or pension claims, military pensions and pay, and GI bill benefits.
Information will also be available regarding education; employment, training, and business opportunities; the work opportunity tax credit for businesses hiring qualifying veterans; and the Washington Crossing National Cemetery and the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Congresswoman’s Montgomery County District Office at 215-517-6572.
