Washington, D.C. – Today, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi appointed U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz to serve on the joint Senate-House conference committee charged with finding an agreement to extend middle class tax cuts, extend unemployment assistance, and fix the Medicare physician payment rate. Leader Pelosi also named Reps. Levin, Becerra, Van Hollen, and Waxman to serve on the Conference Committee.
Schwartz is a senior member of the House Budget Committee, vice chair of the moderate New Democrat Coalition, and the author of a proposal to permanently repeal the sustainable growth rate formula and reform the Medicare physician payment rate.
“I have always worked across the aisle to find common ground on the most important issues facing our nation. We need to put aside our differences in order to protect our economic recovery. I am honored to have been appointed to this joint committee and will work to prevent a tax increase on middle class families and preserve the quality health care America’s seniors deserve.”
