U.S. Rep. Schwartz Votes for Tough Sanctions Against Iran

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Allyson Y. Schwartz today voted in support of the Iran Counter-Proliferation Act (H.R. 1400). The bill, which will strengthen the enforcement and implementation of existing sanctions against Iran, passed overwhelming 397 to 16.

“Iran’s current regime, led by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, poses one of the gravest threats to ever to global security. Iran’s continued vigorous pursuit of nuclear weapons; their support for international terrorist organizations, such as Hamas and Hezbollah; and their abhorrent human rights practices demand action by the United States and the international community,” said Rep. Schwartz.

She added, “President Ahmadinejad’s speech yesterday at Columbia University was further demonstration if how imperative it is that the United States must continue to take a hard-line against Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The Iran Counter-Proliferation Act is a strong step forward and I urge its immediate implementation.”
