Medicare Budget Cuts of $182 Billion Expected to Disproportionably Affect Pennsylvania

 

Budget Conference Call: Thursday, February 7, 2:00 p.m.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey and U.S. Representative Allyson Schwartz (Pa-13), a member of the House Budget Committee, will host a media conference call Thursday, February 7, 2008, 2:00 p.m. to discuss the substantial impact that President Bush’s proposed budget could have on Pennsylvania families, communities, and businesses. 

President Bush’s proposed 3.1 trillion dollar Fiscal Year 2009 budget includes significant cuts to federal programs, such as Medicare, that disproportionably affect Pennsylvania. During the call, Casey and Schwartz will discuss the impact of proposed Medicare cuts on Pennsylvania seniors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, as well as brief on the budget’s impact on the Children’s Health Insurance Program and other key healthcare areas.

Prior to the conference call, at 11:00 a.m., the House Budget Committee has scheduled their first hearing on the Fiscal Year 2009 budget. Witnesses scheduled to testify include Jim Nussle, Director, Office of Management and Budget.
