U.S. Rep. Schwartz’s Statement on President Obama’s Budget Blueprint
Schwartz: “This is a path forward for America.”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz (PA-13) released the following statement concerning President Obama’s budget blueprint. As Vice Chair of the House Budget Committee and a member of the Ways and Means Committee, Schwartz will be closely involved in the upcoming budget process.

“Just a short while ago, President Obama unveiled his budget blueprint. Over the coming weeks, Congress will take a close, hard look at the budget and the plans that President Obama put forth to restore fiscal responsibility and make the type of investments necessary for economic growth and stability.

“President Obama was candid with the American people when he spoke Tuesday night. And his budget reflects that reality. His budget institutes a return to honest accounting practices and renewed fiscal responsibility. He recognizes, as do I, that we must set an ambitious goal in deficit reduction.

“We have a responsibility to carefully and deliberatively examine the federal budget, cut waste, and eliminate ineffective programs.

“The magnitude of the economic and fiscal crises facing America requires bold action to address our immediate challenges, as well as to invest in our future prosperity.

“As a nation, we have to become more energy efficient and more energy independent.

“We must train and educate the workforce that the 21st century economy demands.

“And we must tackle healthcare reform. American families and American businesses, large and small, are counting on us. Economic competitiveness in a global market demands action on healthcare reform. Building on what works in healthcare, we have to ensure all Americans have access to affordable, quality healthcare.

“The budget is a reflection of our values and our priorities. It is a testament to what we believe in, and it is a path forward for our country.”
