Jenkintown, PA – This past Sunday, May 4th at a reception and art showcase, Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz announced the winner and honorable mentions of this year’s 13th District Congressional Art Competition. 80 Philadelphia and Montgomery County high students competed locally in the competition sponsored by Congresswoman Schwartz. Nationally, thousands of U.S. high school students compete each year in this prestigious contest.

The first prize was awarded to Caroline Laschenski of Mount Saint Joseph Academy for her “Endangered Species” poster. Her artwork will be on display for one year in the U.S. Capitol Building.

“This year we had an exceptional number of local high school students compete in the Congressional Art Competition. Each student displayed tremendous talent and artistic ability, and it was not an easy decision for the judges to only select one winner,” said Congresswoman Schwartz.

Honorable mentions were awarded to Jessica Cohen, a student at Abington Senior High School; Christine Yoo a student at North Penn High School; Marie Sweeney, a student at Nazareth Academy High School; and Gwendolyn Young, a student at Diskin Gallagher Community Art Center.

Schwartz hosted a reception and award ceremony on Sunday, May 4th at The Brownstone Schoolhouse at Sunrise Senior Living of Abington in celebration of the students.
