| Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Allyson Y. Schwartz announced today that she was able to secure $650,000 in new federal funds in the Fiscal Year 2007 Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development bill (FY07 TTHUD bill) to advance four important local efforts.
The funding secured by Schwartz will benefit communities across the district, including Mayfair, Ambler, Towamencin Township, and Gwynedd Valley. Specifically, the federal dollars will help these communities improve local roadways and strengthen community development.
“I am pleased to have been able to secure $650,000 in federal investment to help our local communities. These grants will enable towns and neighborhoods across the district to make vital improvements and updates,” said Rep. Schwartz.
Grants Secured by Representative Schwartz
Mayfair: $75,000 to the Mayfair Community Development Corporation in Philadelphia to renovate a single-screen movie theater and six adjacent commercial storefronts into a regional, live cultural arts center.
Ambler: $75,000 to the Ambler Theater to make needed handicap/ADA compliant renovations and structural changes to the theater.
Towamencin Township: $300,000 to complete the final design work for a project to widen, reconstruct and light three miles of roadways in Towamencin and Upper Gwynedd Townships.
Gwynedd Valley: $200,000 to be used for the construction of a roadway entrance from Gwynedd-Mercy College on to Sumneytown Pike. Currently, the entryway to Gwynedd-Mercy contributes to significant rush hour traffic. Relocating the entryway, including a lighted intersection, would provide for better queuing distances between the light at Evans Road, the College and the light at the Springhouse Shopping Center.
The funds were included in the Fiscal Year 2007 Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development bill, which passed the House June 14 by a vote of 406 to 22. The next step is for the bill to be approved by the Senate, and then signed into law by President Bush. Fiscal Year 2007 begins on October 1, 2007.
