Schwartz: PA Police Secure $72 Million in Stimulus Funding

Washington, D.C. – Today the U.S. Department of Justice released $72,372,843 in Edward Byrne Justice Assistance grant funding for Pennsylvania. This funding was included as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan that U.S. Rep. Schwartz supported.
The announced funding includes $13.544 million for the City of Philadelphia, whose police force has lost seven officers in the line of duty since 2006. This funding can be used for activities to prevent and control crime and strengthen the criminal justice system.

“Our law enforcement officers put themselves at risk each day to keep our communities safe from criminals. We must match their commitment to us by ensuring that we give them the equipment they need to protect themselves,” U.S. Rep. Schwartz said. “This investment demonstrates the commitment of the Democrats in the House and the Obama Administration to stand up for police.”

In addition to the state, many local governments in Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District will also receive funding. A complete list is available from the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/BJA/recoveryJAG/recjag/PA.xls
