Washington, DC – Rep. Allyson Schwartz voted today to protect seniors from a potential increase in their monthly Medicare premiums next year. Schwartz voted for the Medicare Premium Fairness Act (H.R. 3631), which will ensure that Medicare Part B premiums will not be increased next year. Since Medicare Part B Premiums are deducted directly from Social Security checks, the freeze in Medicare premiums will ensure that no senior will receive a cut in their Social Security.
“In these difficult economic times, seniors on fixed-incomes are struggling,” Rep. Schwartz said. “Today’s important action ensures that seniors will not see any reduction in their Social Security checks.”
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office determined that H.R. 3631 will not add to the country’s national debt. The bill is endorsed by AARP, The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM), Alliance for Retired Americans, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association.
The legislation, which passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 406-18, must now be passed by the U.S. Senate before it can be signed into law by President Obama.
