Washington, D.C. – In these difficult economic times, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz is committed to assisting nonprofit organizations with information and resources about funding sources, including the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This landmark economic recovery act, passed by Congress earlier this year, provides hundreds of billions of dollars in funding to strengthen our economy, including grant funds available for nonprofit organizations to apply for through competitive grant processes.
To provide greater Philadelphia area nonprofits with a better understanding of how to research available funding sources, including funds available from the economic recovery act, Schwartz will host two half-day grant seminars, “Government, Corporate, and Foundation Research,” in Philadelphia and Blue Bell later this month. Seminars are targeted to staff, board members and volunteers of local nonprofits, as well as to those seeking to start up nonprofits. The seminars are free and open to the public.

(NOTE: These are the same seminar, offered in different locations.)
The agenda for the seminars includes a comprehensive overview of navigating federal search engines, conducting foundation and corporate research, tailoring proposals to specific funding sources and an introduction to local Foundation Centers’ resources. These seminars will also help organizations better learn to navigate the federal grants system which offers more than 1,000 grant programs and access to approximately $400 billion in annual awards.
Each seminar will include plenty of time for questions, and a complimentary continental breakfast and lunch is provided. The seminars are a follow up to the highly successful grants seminars that Representative Schwartz hosted in 2007 and 2008, which attracted hundreds of participants.
Experts scheduled to present include:
o Jay Blackwell, director of the Capacity Building Division. Office of Minority Health Resource Center, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
o Yvette Davis, director, Johnson UGO Foundation Library
o Lawrence Greene, archives & special collections librarian, Montgomery County Community College Foundation Library
