U.S. Rep. Schwartz on House Discussion Draft for Health Care Reform

Washington, D.C. - Earlier today, the chairmen of the House Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce, and Education and Labor Committees unveiled their discussion draft for health care reform. The three panels with jurisdiction over health policy in the House have been working together as one committee to develop a single bill that fulfills President Obama’s goals of reducing health care costs, protecting and increasing consumers’ choices, and guaranteeing access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, U.S. Rep. Schwartz (PA-13) is actively involved in Committee discussions and work on health reform.

US. Rep. Schwartz issued the following statement regarding the discussion draft.

“Ensuring that all Americans have access to affordable, meaningful health care and containing costs is key to providing families greater peace of mind, rebuilding our economy, and bringing our deficit under control.

“Congressional leadership and our committee and subcommittee chairs, in particular Chairman Rangel and Chairman Stark, should be recognized for their leadership on health reform. The discussion draft includes strong emphasis on two key priorities of mine, primary care and market reform, and it was important to see those included as core principles.

“As Congress continues to work on and debate health reform, the discussion draft unveiled today is a step in the right direction. Much work lays ahead of us, but we all know that if our businesses are to be economically competitive, our families healthier, and our government fiscally sound, we must find a uniquely American solution to our health care challenges.”
