U.S. Representative Schwartz Issues Statement
Celebrating Catholic Schools Week 2006
Washington, D.C. – In celebration of Catholic Schools Week 2006, U.S. Representative Allyson Y. Schwartz issued the following statement today.
“Our local Catholic schools provide a valuable service to not just children and families, but to the entire community. Principals, teachers, and other school workers help to create a strong, character-based education that encompasses both academic excellence and compassion. Catholic schools across the nation demonstrated this commitment to compassion by helping to raise more than $1 million to support efforts to rebuild Catholic schools affected by Hurricane Katrina.”
Last year, U.S. Representative Schwartz voted in support of a resolution to praise Catholic schools for their academic excellence and service to the community. The resolution recognized the vital contributions of America's thousands of Catholic elementary and secondary schools; and congratulated Catholic schools, students, parents, and teachers across the nation for their ongoing contributions to education, and for the key role they play in promoting and ensuring a brighter, stronger future for this nation.
