Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Schwartz voted in strong support today for a bill, the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act, that will provide $25 million in grants to state, local and tribal governments to be able to purchase bulletproof vests. As a co-sponsor of the bill, Schwartz fought for its successful passage (404 to 2).
“As a member of Congress, I have been fighting to do everything I can to ensure that this incredibly important grant effort, which gets thousands of bulletproof vests to America’s police officers, continues. And, I will continue to advocate forcefully for police officers in my district, which includes Northeast Philadelphia and Montgomery County, to have all the resources that they need on the streets,” said U.S. Rep. Schwartz.
This critical grant program was created in 1998, and because of this initiative more than 450,000 bulletproof vests have been purchased nationwide. Locally, Schwartz has helped to secure tens of thousands of federal dollars to enable area jurisdictions to purchase critical equipment, including bulletproof vests.
