U.S. REPRESENTATIVE ALLYSON SCHWARTZ STATEMENT ON THE DEMOCRATIC 2008 FEDERAL BUDGET

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz a member of the Committee on Ways and Means and a member of the Budget Committee spoke today concerning the Democratic 2008 Federal Budget.

"Democrats are committed to returning fiscal discipline to our federal budget.  Our plan will lessen the tax burden on middle class families while focusing our attention on affordable healthcare, education and job security.  We understand the nation’s economic competitiveness means working together with the business community as well as addressing the long-term consequences of our massive debt.  American families understand they have to behave responsibly and not spend what they don't have - the federal government must be just as responsible," said Schwartz.

Commenting on the policies of past republican budgets Schwartz said, “There is a lot of work to be done -- the budgetary policies of the last six years have hurt American families.  The Democratic budget takes us an important step in the right direction by preventing higher taxes for 19 million Americans and by extending access to healthcare to 7 million children.  It is clear we cannot increase the financial burden on future Americans.  Democrats have a plan - it is responsible and it addresses the concerns of everyday Americans."
