| Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Allyson Y. Schwartz is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s 13th Congressional District Congressional Art Competition. Over forty students from Montgomery County and Philadelphia participated in this year’s local art competition. The prestigious national competition is entered by thousands of U.S. high school students who compete to have their artwork hang in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.
“The judges had a very difficult decision this year. We received many outstanding pieces, from photography to oil paintings. Each student should be applauded for their effort and for their artistic talent,” said Rep. Schwartz.
The first prize was awarded to Xin Chen, a junior from North Penn High School who won for her painting entitled “Wugui and Me.” Chen resides with her uncle, Xuxian Dong, and
aunt, Konghua Tiang, in Hatboro.
The honorable mentions included, Christina Ju of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School for “Delicate Still Life,” Grace Mears of Calvary Christian Academy for “Overflow,” Michelle Myung of Philadelphia-Montgomery Christian Academy for “Closet Drawing,” and Julia M. Soper of The American Academy for “The Lawnmower.”
Representative Schwartz hosted a reception and award ceremony on Monday, May 1 at Sunrise of Abington Senior Living in honor of the students.
The following students from Philadelphia and Montgomery County participated in this year’s Congressional Art Competition. The title of each student’s artwork follows the name and school of the participating student.
