The American economy has come a long way from 2008 when we were losing 800,000 jobs a month. For 49 consecutive months, the economy has now added a total of 8.9 million jobs. While we are seeing signs of growth, too many Americans are still out of work and too many families are struggling.
We have a lot of work to do to strengthen our economy. To succeed, we must restore consumer and investor confidence and ensure American businesses can compete in a global economy. Economic competitiveness can only be achieved by ensuring we have a skilled workforce, continuing to invest in infrastructure, which includes road, bridges, broadband, making sure that Americans have access to low cost clean domestic energy, and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
To strengthen America’s economy, we must:
- Promote emerging industries to ensure American companies can remain on the frontlines of innovation;
- Ensure every American has access to affordable educational opportunities to build a successful workforce now and into the future; and,
- Invest in transportation and infrastructure that will rebuild our local economies and reinvigorate our communities.
