I am pleased to announce the winner and honorable mention from my district’s 2011 Congressional Art Competition. This year’s competition featured artwork from students from Eastern Center for Arts and Technology, Willow Grove, and The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush, Northeast Philadelphia in the 13th Congressional District.
This year's winner is Felicity Hicks, a 9th grade student from Northeast Philadelphia. Hicks attends The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush. Her winning painting “Flowers” will be displayed for one year in the United States Capitol alongside winners from Congressional districts nationwide.
Honorable mentions include:
- Acacia Barron, a 10th grader at The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush, for her photography print “Michael Rosenbaum.” Barron lives in Northeast Philadelphia.
- Nichole Hamilton, a senior at Eastern Center for the Arts & Technology, for her pen and ink drawing “Mr. Squishy.” Hamilton lives in Willow Grove, PA.
The Congressional Art Competition is an annual nationwide competition initiated by the U.S. House of Representatives' Congressional Arts Caucus in 1982. Each spring, I invite students who live in or attend school in the 13th Congressional District to participate in the Congressional Art Competition.
